<<<Yes, children are moulded by their environment. But in a case where a child is more "moulded" by any book (be it HP or Enid Blyton), I would say that his or her parents have failed somewhat in their duty to "mould" the child sufficiently in their own image, such that other influences can win over the child's inclinations. My own view, having read some of the books, is that magic in HP is more a parody than reflection of reality and eminently unreproducible in life (From what I have read of real covens and witchcraft, their brand of "magic" is much more subtle and deeper, such that one would not even guess that a close neighbour is of this group).>>>
Well you can look at the failure of the parents to do so. But you have to understand the obstacles/influences presented by this world (one of which is HP) that this sort of things have become so normal part of life. So, if it is a norm, such as taking a car to the shops stead of walking, lets follow the crowd. So, at the end of it, it MAY become a norm for your child to involve in this witchcraft, bearing in mind the exerted peer pressures of the world exerted on the child. Now, is it so easy any more on the parents? My point is that the moulidng starts now, by knowing what is good or bad for the child, stead of finding out somewhare along his life, this invovlement in witchcraft has moulded his life. Note that kids of ALL ages are influenced. Nowadays, witchcraft is no more subtle. You go to UK, they have shops selling the paraphenelia. What you may be referring to is Satanism, which infact is becoming more open. Getting to be a "norm"? <<<I do not understand what you mean when you say, "If your thoughts is going to be moulded by HP, you will think as such." >>> What I mean is that Books CAN mould us like movies. Our thoughts can be moulded by what we read if without discernment ;as in the case of children, discernment is normally lacking. As the Bible moulds our thought patterns, so can an ungodly book. <<<When you say that imaginations must be cast down, does that mean that we must ascertain that every single thought that comes to mind is from God, including where I will dine tonight? And that every indepedent thought and dream (including whatever ideas I have generate for school compositions and company presentations) is carnal?>>. No...whatever is against God...such as wichcraft in any form, subtle or not. <<<You asked Evehow, "...can there be a 'good' evil such as white magic or good socerers? If it is not of God.....??? Why are you making degrees of relativity of evil?" I don't think that is what she is saying. She seems to be asking whether or not you regard a depiction of evil in fiction to be enough for a Christian to label a book or work as "evil" as well.>>> I think she said 'graphic' as well. Evil come in all sizes, big and small, but evil all the same. Is there a lesser evil in the sight of God? <<<I seriously do not see any link between HP (and most other fantasy fiction) with making kids cross fire, use divination, enchantment, cast charms or consult spirits. Granted, children in non believer families are wont to act out the mannerisms of fictional heroes (and who are we to stop them), but I think children of truly Godly parents would know where fantasy and reality meet. (But if you know of any authenticated cases of someone falling into witchcraft through the sole influence of HP, I would be interested to know and revise my assessment) >>> HP is only out recently, so the effects has not probabluy taken place. But others such as pwer rangers I have seen. Seen a violent 4 year old after watching power rangers? In the west, the ouija board is 'just a board game'. Is it to you? It is the invoking of spirits, but to them it is like monopoly or scrabble. <<<Also, I fail to understand why HP seems to be the target of such holy derision. Why not attack in equal fervour the Narnian Chronicles, the wizards of Middle-Earth, the Wicked Witch of the West and Moonface (an Egyptian deity if there ever was) of Enid Blyton's Enchanted Forest? >>> Because of the influence that it is weilding on our kids. Best box office...imagine the impact on ALL kids. One last point. I read recently in secular mag, a German MP said that HP is NOT for kids. He says by showing the kids holding crosses upside down in the film is definitely not on for him. This is a secular mag. What about you? prophet
