To give Ivan his due,

I looked back at Joe’s post, and Pastor David J. Meyer seems to see a link between the heady days of witchcraft in the 1960s and the birth of Ms Rowling. How her infant days could have been connected to those days is not exactly mentioned, but I gather the message is: she was born in a witching decade and therefore is close to witches (wow, thank God I’m born in the 1970s).

Unfortunately, I still don’t see how Mr Meyer claims the HP books to be orientational or instructional manuals (nor how Simon & Garfunkel were part of a Luciferian project). He says that the names of characters are the names of demons. I know Circe and Hermes to be names of Greek deities, but what’s wrong with that (there’s lots of folks called Venus, Jupiter and Adonis)? Draco is to me the name of an ancient Athenian legislator, while Azakaban and Slytherin are mere onomatopoetic devices. I am sure there are even demons with names like John Tan, Mary Jane, Bluemarcus and Evehow as well!

Meyer adds that “by reading these materials, many millions of young people are learning how to work with demon spirits.” And may I ask how exactly? By waving a magic wand? He says too: "The titles of the books should be warning enough to make us realize how satanic and anti-christ these books are. The afore mentioned title of the first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone", was a real give away. The second book was called "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", while the third book was entitled "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." Still nothing to substantiate his claim except his simple defining of these words as demonic. Wow, that means I must never use the words Chamber and Secrets together. The Sorcerer’s Stone was originally called the Philosopher’s Stone in the original book (methinks they changed the name caused American kids know naught about philosophers), referring to a well known icon of ancient alchemy. So?

Meyer says too that “On July 8 [2000] at midnight, bookstores everywhere were stormed by millions of children to obtain the latest and fourth book of the series known as "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." These books were taken into homes everywhere with a real evil spirit following each copy to curse those homes. Now this I find rather hard to swallow!

Mr Meyer also seems to advocate for various similar reasons that Valentine’s day, Christmas should not be celebrated and that Easter Day hot cross buns and ham are antichrist activities. Do go to his interesting site www.lasttrumpetministries.org and read more. Most wondrous of all was his claim that he received a vision on July 6 2001 about two burning WTC towers in NYC (and did not tell anyone) and his keen astrological interpretation of the event thereafter, not too mention his judicious recording of events (earthquakes and such) that prove the end-times are just around the corner.

Should I believe this guy? I think I’d rather stick to my brains. Now why don't YOU read the book and tell me how exactly does it help young kids to become real witches?
