It is a known fact by all that deeply religious people, including christians, would avoid seeing or reading magazines like Playboy, Penthouse, etc in the presence of other people but they would go straight for it when they think no one is watching. So I don't believe the old methods will solve the problem especially now that we have the Internet. The government cannot solve the problem either if it wants to keep up with the knowledge economy and become "world class". The way to handle the problem, especially with children, is through education by the parents. Those parents who can't do this can forget it for they have no idea what their children can do behind their backs. You cannot be watching your children all the time. It is important to win the child's trust when the child asks the first questions about sex. If you try to beat around the bush the child will loose faith in you and will learn form other people, peers, movies, books or magazines. You cannot keep track of what they are learning. You should be able to discuss all about sex with your children freely and answer all their questions whenever they ask. Of course this implies that you are quite well versed about sex yourself. If your child cannot freely talk to you on sexual matters and ask you questions then I think there is something wrong somewhere. No use of blameing the media, movies, the Internet, the school, government, etc. As a modern parent it is your responsibility to give your child a good sex education, early in their lives. |
