In my opinion, when it is Revelation the writers of the Scriptures probably didn't know what they were writing about but when it is Inspiration, I believe God didn't override the intelligence of the individual writers. They manitained their individuality in their writings even though they were inspired.

What I am trying to say is that the use of one's intelligence can be a factor in understanding the things of God except in certain exceptional circumstances when we have to admit that we don't know. So one shouldn't deride one's intelligence or that of other people in matters concerning God.

St Paul was an intellectual and you can see it in, for example, Romans. Look at the number of times he uses "therefore" to conclude his arguments.

Modern christianity with its anti-intellectual stance, in my opinion, will not be able to stand against the onslaught of the world, unlike the christianity of the ages past.

In the past the brightest and the best were found in the Church but now they are somewhere else.
