I have a question. Regarding the above scriptures, the new covenant applies to christians as well right. But the LORD mentions HE made the covenant with the house of Israel and Judah. Are we (christians) belong to house of Israel and Judah also since the LORD made this covenant with them. If not, how are we to claim that covenant is for christians too. Please advise with scriptures support. Thanks. ++You have to understand that the writer of Hebrews was writing to primarily Jewish believers about their faith. He was contrasting the old covenant with the new and how it applied to them as Jews, for Israel is still very much in God's plan of redemption. The following verses will go to show that through Jesus, both Jew and Gentile are a new man, which is the mystery Paul talked about. It is no longer whether the Jews join the Gentiles or the Gentiles join the Jews, but that both are joined to Christ and become His Bride, spotless and without blemish. Eph 2:13 "But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity...So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household..." 1 Tim 3:15 "I write so that you may know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth." |
