Here's a website that might add fuel to fire. http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/HP-Movie.htm BTW, I haven't read Harry Potter and I don't intend to, nor will I encourage kids to read them. When they have been trained to discern right from wrong, good from evil, true from false, fact and fiction, then perhaps they can be set free to explore, by then they would already be in their late teens when parents can "let go"! I think if parents have not sold their kids to love the Word of God first, to delight in the stories of the Bible, then parents have failed in their duty if their kids would love Harry Potter stories and get all excited over them instead of the Bible. The worst thing would be to hear kids respond in boredom to Bible stories and yet reach heights of euphoria when talking about Harry Potter or Harry Potty or Harry Monster.... On the other hand, as an individual, a grown up adult, I might just watch it to gawk at the special effects and be stunned by the "how did they do it?" scenes. The same would go for Lord of the Rings. Some people watch it for academic purposes, others because they want to see how the book translate to sight and sound, others because they simply love the series, others for pure mindless entertainment, and some like me just like to see the "wizardry" that goes into making great special effects movies. I guess some will take issue with me concerning just watching it but let everyone be convinced in his own mind and not let watching or not watching HP be the test of fellowship between believers. |
