The basic doctrines of the Methodist church comes form the Anglican Church which in turn subscribes to the Catholic Creeds like the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed. These are fundamental to the christian faith and is the same for Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists and all historical churches. When you become a Methodist you will still retain the same doctrines as far as God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost is conerned. So you don't denounce the catholic faith in the strict sense. What you will be doing is you will cease to practice all those things that are not Scriptural. You will drop some of those things that were incorporated into the church during the history of the church. You'll learn this as you go along. It is good to find out for yourself why we have the Anglicans, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, etc. The best thing to do is to speak to a Methodist pastor. It is not as difficult as you think it is. The Methodist Chruch believes that it is also part of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. So shouldn't be any problem. Best wishes. |
