and by "charismatic" I do not mean it in the popular denominational-movement sense. The early church of the first century was highly charismatic, because everyone functioned in the church meetings and participated as they were led by the Spirit. One church had some excesses though, and we know it as the Church in Corinth. However, Paul did not curtail the charismatic-ness of the meetings. Rather he wrote that they exercise their gifts in an orderly way, always with the end to edifying the whole church (sad to say, many in the charismatic churches today do their own thing, whether it be tongues or other forms of expressions, while oblivious to those around them, such can hardly be said to be edifying to all). You should seek out a charismatic church, for that will be believers whose meetings are Spirit-filled and Spirit-led, the way Paul taught it to be in the Bible. The early church did not know of any meetings where it can be said to be non-charismatic. Each believer has a gift to be used for the edification of the body of believers, and when used in the context of church meetings, it will be nothing short of charismatic! |
