One, maybe you can help me to understand how a nonbeliever would want to talk about worshipping God and seek to worship Him. The other alternative is that if your friend is so keen on worshipping God, perhaps you may like to suggest to her that she may have already been converted in heart. You may like to check it out. Two, I don't think any nonbeliever would ask the church meeting to be tailored made for him. On the contrary, churches are already very "sensitive" to try and many ANY nonbeliever happy to sit there in the pew without any suggestions from the nonbeliever. This is something that the believer needs to ask himself, what's the purpose of a church meeting, and who is it for? Many think that church meeting is primarily a worship service, and that's how church services are structured with a strong emphasis on songs and worship experience. Sad to say, that's not what the NT teaches. The NT does not teach a worship service, it teaches a service of worship (everything we do we do unto God, anytime, anyplace). And if you look at the Christian scene today, you can find traditional, contemporary, rock, celtic? kind of worship services for people to choose their preference. That results in a kind of "homogeneous" people with one kind of like and dislike. Look at the NT (which do not emphasize the worship service) in 1 Cor 14:26. If churches meet like that, the diversity would be embraced (anyone can bring a song as led by the Spirit) and songs would be peppered over the duration of the meeting. The young people may sing a "hip" praise to God while the elders may bring a psalm or a hymn. No one would shudder at the songs each bring. No one would be leading a worship for 45 minutes and dictating what kind of style the songs would be. I believe today's problems of worship styles stem from this very idea of a structured worship service. Many do not think that 1 Cor 14:26 applies to their meetings or that it only belongs in a cell group (on what basis?) |
