Dear Ephris,
I can't help hearing the word "Gotcha!" in my mind as I read your last reply about your friend not worshipping the Christian God! :-)) Others didn't catch this as they challenged your notion that your non-Christian friend can worship God, even in church. If your friend is really doing that, that he has a very broad view of God, or in other words, he has an inclusive view of God. I did think that you were referring to this inclusive view of God. I guess I picked this up because I had just written a post in another forum about this view. Abraham worshipped a God who was not fully revealed to him, but we do not deny that he worshipped God. Similarly, many pagan religions worship God with whatever revelation they have received. Those steeped and well-learned in these pagan religions will be less dogmatic about the God they worship because as they learn more, they realise how little they know of what the true God is like. But we all worship God. I have one reservation though. While I fully appreciate the fact that Christianity does not have a monopoly on truth since God has graciously given general revelation to Man, the question is whether non-Christian religions have salvific merit in them. I believe you understand this and I would think the reason you bring your friend to church is to introduce him to THE one religion (out of the many that he knows) that has salvific value. Unfortunately, I live in the East and hence cannot answer your question about church in the West. Nevertheless, I wish you godspeed. Regards, Christopher
