In his book, "The Bride", Charles Swindoll wrote, In fact, there are various kinds or styles of churches referred to these days. One authority has divided churches into four types. ++I wonder what authority is that? BTW, I've nothing against Charles Swindoll as a man of God. I've read many of his good books, but that doesn't mean I cannot critique other books he wrote, OK? First, he names the body church. A second type of church is what he calls the cathedral church. Third, he mentions the tabernacle church. The fourth one he mentions is the phantom church. ++The above are not types of church. They are various expressions of church life, especially in regards to the physical places of gatherings. However, it would not be difficult to see which expression best reflects the NT church. So, your church will fit the body church. Right? The new CHC will match the cathedral church except that they also meet in home cells on weekday. ++I'm not interested to fit in someone's definition of church. I'm more interested to see that the church life expression I seek is that embraced by the NT church. Whether you are cathedral and choose to meet in homes, you still cannot deny the fact that you have chosen an expression of the church (largely institutional) not embraced by the NT (organic). |
