The sentence is "...cleansed it by the washing of water ...."
Even though the word washing is there if you read the whole sentence you will see that it is past tense. Look here: 'I drank the water by gulping down' . Am I still gupling ? or have I finished drinking? You have clearly read it wrong. Jesus has 'CLEANSED' by 'Washing'. i.e. it is already Done, but He did it by Washing. -JD
