i believe that many of the "weaknesses" of buidling-based church described in the articles can be/are being addressed by a good cellgroup system - which in my personal opinion, is/can be conceptually equivalent to the house church model. ++Like I explained to Ivan. The similarities between the house church and the cell group is largely superficial. There are radical paradigms underlying the house church model. personally, i prefer to have sunday service in a church building because i believe sunday service a time for me to come together with my brothers and sisters in Christ to praise and worship our wonderful God corporately. ++I hope you do not define corporate worship solely as that taking place during Sunday Services for that would be begging the question. How is meeting in a home and singing songs of worship not corporate worship? Who defines corporate worship as Sunday service styled worship? Popular opinion? it is just my personal preference to worship with a larger group of people in a church building, instead of with a small group of people in a small house. i don't mind worshipping God in a house. ++Thanks for your candidness. You put it all down to personal preference. May I ask why this preference? What attracts you to a large worship experience? in fact, the church i belong to had bible studies/worship service in our pastor's house for quite a few years before we outgrew the location. ++That's understandable. So what were some of the changes noted before and after the change from home to building? i also believe that sunday service should also be a time for me to invite my unsaved friends to hear about the love and grace of our Father God and the beauties and glories of our Lord Jesus Christ. ++This point will actually address the purpose of church meetings, something I've addressed to earlier. i don't deny/object to other ways of doing church, but i think having a church buidling serves the above stated objectives (that of corporate worhip and evangelistic outreach) very well. ++How would you assess your statement with reference to the NT who did it all without the church buildings? so, you're right to say that i'm "indifferent" as to whether christians congregate in a church buidling or in a house. to me, that is a not an important issue. the key issue to me is whether the group of people gather together in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to worship and learn more about our Father God, in Spirit and in Truth. ++I think the purpose is there. The question is, how do we do that? Do we follow the ways of man's traditions or do we first look to the Scriptures? How much of what we do in church today have biblical basis? Or are we indifferent to what the Bible says? before i end, i would just like to let you know (and hopefully understand that) to me, i believe the current arrangement that i'm in works very well for me - i.e. having sunday worship services in a church building, and having cellgroup meetings (which includes praise and worship, prayers and bible study/discussion) at a cell member's house. ++It worked very well for me too, before I learned about the house church and how church should be. I challenge you to think deeper about what true church life is and discover a deeper dimension of church life than the cell group has to offer. |
