"He (Charles Colson) has given the green light to see the show and read his books. "

He has also given the green light to see Harry Potter.

So what does that mean hah? *snigger*

I'm just so amused that such pseudo-Christian justification is desperately needed by some people.

Btw, while Tolkien is Roman Catholic, I doubt expounding "Christian values" was on his mind while he started writing Lord of the Rings. He drew much inspiration from Anglo-Saxon legends and characters while constructing his own in the trilogy... creator gods, powerful wizards, immortal elves, walking trees and all.

But since Lord of the Rings is being advertised as a "model for Christian value" despite its very pagan roots and sources, I suppose there is some truth in what I wrote earlier - that it is hard to distinguish what is "good" and what is "evil" on this earth.

From a literary point of view, Lord of the Rings is leaps and bounds better than Harry Potter. No loss really if you don't read the latter, but too bad if you see refrain from the former as a "promoter of paganism." In fact, I'm wondering how come those chest-thumping Christians aren't using this as a war cry, ahahahaha!!!!!!

The movie is no substitution for the book... see it if you wish for a dramatization for the well-loved characters like the hobbits and wizards, but do still read the trilogy (and its predecessor, The Hobbit) to get a feel of Tolkien's mastery over the English language, and his immense imagination in his creation of the places and races found in his books.

Btw, avoid the movie if you abhor the following: violent scenes, kissing scenes, scenes of magic and wizardry. But if these are only "objectionable," then it's okay lah.
