Thanks for the commentary. I quite enjoyed it.
There's a Tolkien special tonight at Arts Central. The book touches me not because it expounds Christian values blah blah blah, but because it is clear the author has taken pains to tell his story, and to tell it convincingly. Besides The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, there's also the Silmarillion, and other books and works which gave rise to a convincing world where Valars, Maiars, Elves (with their own language), Dwarves, Hobbits and Man lived. There're lots of Tolkien websites for those interested in finding out more. Try www.theonering.net for one. I even heard there's a Singapore branch of the Tolkien Society. Btw I've watched the movie 3 times and read the book the same number. I have my views on the movie which I think I've expressed briefly in the earlier post.
