From one of my friends.
---------------------------------- It was God who killed all the people in Noah's day (except Noah and his family). You might say that they got what they deserved, they were God's enemies. Well, He doesn't seem to treat His friends much better. For example take Job. God points out Job to satan then stands back and watches as Job gets the stuffing kicked out of him by the evil one. At the end of it all, God simply says to Job, "who are you to judge me" (Job 38). God left at least eight pagan nations in the promised land to beat up on His own people (Judges 3:1-4). He made; Isaiah walk around naked for three years (I wonder what Mrs. Isaiah thought?) (Isa 20), Ezekiel lay on his side for over a year and cook his food over human defecation (caca) (Eze 4), and Hosea marry a whore (Hos 1). He killed Uzzah when Uzzah tried to give God a hand (1 Chron 13:9-10). He stood back and watched as His people were ravaged first by the Assyrians then the Babylonians. It's the same in the New Testament. God's friend Paul was beaten five times with forty stripes minus one (2 Cor 11). John the Baptist lost his head (Matt 11 & 14). And look what happened to His own Son. Do we expect better treatment from God? No wonder the writer of Hebrews can say "It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Do you know that there are even times when God hurts us. "Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds." Hosea 6:1 I have come to learn several things through all of this: 1). God is a king and we have got to learn court etiquette, 2). Jesus teaches us to call this awesome King/God who is so powerful, so unpredictable, so fearful ... Papa (Abba), 3). Real faith is believing that God is good even when His words and behavior seem to indicate the opposite. -unknown author.
