Yes, at times, we have unknowingly conformed God to our image. We would like to think that Jesus did not make wine out of water but grape juice. We cannot imagine Jesus drinking heartily with sinners and sharing a light moment. We would like Jesus to be without any humour and be serious otherwise He would be unbecoming of a leader.
At times, we do not want to delve on the fact that our God is a jealous God and a warrior God who led Israel into battle. We cannot imagine David, God's chosen and anointed, cutting off Goliath's head after killing him. We cannot imagine the order to slaughter every enemy including children. Similarly we cannot imagine this life on earth is just a tiny speck (sorry, not tiny, almost negligible) of eternity and is just a moulding process. We tend to think life begins and ends only on earth and life in heaven is just something else. Does it matter that life on earth is cosy or dreadful ? All have to run this "race" or "life" and all have the same conclusion - death. BUT FOR THE FAITHFUL BELIEVER, ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN AND FOR THE UNBELIEVER, ETERNAL DAMNATION IN HELL ! We must spend all our energies in praying for the salvation of our loved ones first and then others. Live a life of love, compassion and grace which should be life's greatest purpose.
