Hi Royston,
It is good to see that you have initiated some discussion here. Galatians was probably the first NT letter written. About 48-49 AD. Galatians was written in response to false gospel of the Judaizers who taught that cicumcicision was necessary for salvation. (Acts 15:1) The main point of Galatians can be seen in verse 2:16 when Paul refutes this false teaching (NIV) 16 "know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified." This is the context in which this entire epistle sits. The Galatians had been "bewitched"(v3:1) by these Judaizers and had been "removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ,. . " (v 1:6) Paul attempts to correct this with Galatians. Galatians contrasts the "true gospel" which is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ against a "false gospel" which says that salvation is by the works of the Law(circumcision, etc).
