I think this slaining of the Spirit, or i prefer to calling it being overcomed by the power of God is biblical, though of course there can be abuses in this area.
I believe when God comes in his awesome presence and when he comes ministering, we can be overcome by His presence. It's a possibility and i believe biblical - when we see the diff. characters in the bible not being able to stand God's presence. However, as with all of God's wonderful workings, it can be abused. This occurs when pastors tend to push people over. Not that they use so much force, but people tend to just fall when pushed a bit, thinking it is God. In my previous Church, I was one person who would constantly go to the alters to be prayed for and i can't recall one truly genuine instance whereby God came powerfully that i fell genuinely - and i probably went to be prayed for in my church and in meetings over 30-50 times altogether. In one particular huge meeting whereby thousands and thousands of people were involved here in Singapore, everyone who wanted to be prayed for could go for prayer. Most of the testimonies i heard from friends and their friends was that most of them were pushed. So there are abuses, but that doesn't rule out the fact that God can come in a powerful way. The fall or whatever is just a human physical response. It isn't as though you're holier or whatever. Ultimately, what matters is whether one is changed or not by that experience. If God was truly in it, i believe there should be change. And many people have experienced wonderful deliverance and change through such God's power which resulted in such manifestations. At the same time, many people have not experienced anything and just fell due to some push or wanting to be involved in the hype. I believe what is needed is discernment and we don't need to be fascinated by falling or focus on the manifestation, but ultimately to God. This is what i think. What do you think? Love in Christ, Jonathan
