heh, oh, you could have told him that we live in a postmodern world, and even science is recognised to be 'fuzzy' and not the monolithic, positivistic behemoth that it was once made out to be. I recommend a good book by Ian Barbour on science & religion, in it there are 2 chapters on the differenes & similarities between these 2 most powerful means of understanding our world. You might have to order it from overseas; i did!
