Hello Santa Monica
How are you? Personally, I am wary of using Pascal's Wager as a, erm, "tool of evangelism." I find it quite insulting to the intelligence of the "evangelised." Interested will probably disagree with me on this! I don't deny the statistical conclusions of the Wager, but it does appear to be a bit like gambling, a game of chance, you know? I wonder how it would be taken by God. It's almost like God saying "come on, what do you have to lose? If I am real, you "tan tioh" (strike lottery); if I am non-existent, you just lose the bet but it doesn't matter because you already si-liao (dead). So, believe lah!" I think (personal opinion only hah!) most, ahem, "thinking individuals" would not settle for such, erm, simplistic conclusions to compel them to believe in God. I still think that someone who is looking for answers relating to the existence of God must go through the whole process of thinking and deciding for themselves. Somehow, the more “simple-minded” people such as children and the uneducated ah-mahs and ah-peks seem to be able to comprehend the concept much better than we so-called (ahem) matured adults. Wonder why? Perhaps there’s more to the apparent meaning of “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." (This is mentioned in all the synoptic gospels – Matt 18:3; Mk 10:5; Lk 18:17.) Anyway, I’ll (hopefully) start doing some reading on natural law and natural morality from a philosophical perspective soon. I think it will be interesting. -eveline
