Prayer: The Lord our God hears all our prayers

The Lord our God indeed hears all our prayers. Yes,indeed!

My wife had put off childbirth since the beginning of our marriage in 1990. That was also the year that I was baptised a Roman Catholic, after many years of being called.

I had hoped and prayed for a change of heart on her part. On the first day of Chinese New Year in 1994, we had a big quarrel on this matter and things were not exactly rosy. To put it mildly, I was quite frustrated and had entertained thoughts of packing up and leaving.

I went into the room by myself, switched off the lights and knelt down and prayed like I had never prayed before. The thoughts of separation and all the futile years of waiting all pierced my heart, now I know how people felt when they go through a divorce or a parent losing a young child. The pain was like a dagger stabbed in the heart, almost like the whole being is paralysed. I must have prayed for a long time and emerged out of the room much calmer.

When I went back to work after the New Year period, my colleague came right up to me early in the morning and told me that he had something to say to me. What transpired came almost as a shock to me and is itself the message behind my title.

He told me that he was watching television on that day when suddenly in his state of half stupour, a non-vocal message came into his mind. The message was that I was in trouble and that he was to pray for me. He ignored it and continued assuming his potato couch position in front of the TV. Again, the same message came and there was no mistaking it this time and he knew who was the Author. Before long, he the message came that I had quarrelled with my wife, he just gave me a gist of the quarrel but the main theme was that we as a couple has to continue praying together and meditate on the Word of God.

I just stood there with my mouth opened. Nobody could have known it except Him, because we weren't very vocal in our quarrel and I had kept everything in my heart since that day.

Since that fateful day, we have had two lovely children and one more is coming up this Christmas. My wife has quit her job to look after the children. The bond that she develops with the children far outweighs any material benefits that she can derive from a job.It is a fact that we struggle to pay the bills as well as to look after them ourselves day in and day out. But in our constant struggle we look upwards and pray daily with our family and we draw strength from the Almighty. Yes, indeed God listens to our prayers!

Yours in Christ.

Mark.

P.S. To all parents, please pray with your family. It is prayers that will strengthen our families. And long after they have grown up, they will remember the love and joy that they have experienced during these time of prayer. If you can make ends meet, why not consider looking after your children yourself. In this difficult times our children need us as a rudder to sail on. We need to equip our children with God's love, so that they can contribute and bring back those who are living in darkness to see the light of Christ.

Yes, I appeal to all, win back those children who are oppressed or neglected, those who are on drugs, those who have joined teenaged gangs, those who are into sexual intimacy, those into Satanism and pornography. I appeal to parents who are divorced or are in the process of separation. Yes divorce is heartwrenching and most times it is wrong, but don't make it any more worse by downtrodding your spouse. I am sure that your love for your children has not diminished after your divorce but what the child really needs most is security. This insecurity will manifests in them later on in life as destructive relationships that they tend to enter into unless you take constructive steps to help them.

Please pray for our children. Jesus says: "Let the children come to me".
