Good and reliable friends are hard to come by. They are the ones who would stick with you through thick and thin and would offer you a helping hand in times of need. However, their own constraints and resources limit their help even if they want to. There is someone, who is none other than Jesus Christ, can do exceedingly beyond all human resources put together. You will agree with me fully after you get to read what I am going to share with you. If you recall, Singapore was still very much in recession in 1998 in the midst of S.E. Asian financial turmoil. Many people were affected, especially those in business. We were not spared too. Financial institutions turned cautious in their lending. Our "sunny-weaather" bankers, who had been very supportive during the good times, suddenly pulled the rug and withdrew a great part of their credit facility to us, causing severe cash-flow problems for us. It almost put our Company into insolvency. This also happened to be the year when our daughter was taking her A-level Exam. She desired to pursue her tertiary education overseas. We knew in our human mind that we could never afford it then. Therefore, meeting her aspiration was out of the question at a time when were still struggling to keep our Company afloat. If our long-time bankers failed us, whom then could we turn to for help? Initially, we felt quite helpless in what seemed to be a hopeless situation. Then we remembered the promise of God in the Scripture (Heb 13:5) that He would never leave us nor forsake us. Knowing well that we could trust Him, we decided not to struggle on our own anymore but to commit our situation to Him in prayers. We also called upon our pastors and Christian friends to pray for us. Besides asking God to provide a way out for us, we also asked Him to open doors to the much-coveted scholarships of GIC and MAS for our daughter. You guess what? He not only rescued our Company from going into liquidation by enabling us to dispose one of our fixed assets for the much needed cash for our business but also made it possible in 1999 for our daughter to study Economics in America at the University of Chicago, fully sponsored by MAS. Truly, truly, there is none like our God, where there is no hope, He is our living hope; where there seems no way, He points us to Him for He is the way; where there is no future, He holds our future. So why carry the burden ourselves when we can go to Him for He is more than able to handle it. Tap on His resurrected power and rise up above your circumstance, whatever it may be! Thank you, Lord. You deserve all praises, honour and glory! Nancy Khoo 25/4/00
