Passage: Psalms 113, 127 (RSV)

Psalms 113

1Praise the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD!
2Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore!
3From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the LORD is to be praised!
4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!
5Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high,
6who looks far down upon the heavens and the earth?
7He raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.
9He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!

Psalms 127

A Song of Ascents.

1Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
2It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
3Lo, sons are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons of one's youth.
5Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
