A2.     Escape [Verb]

apopheugo "to flee away from" (apo, "from," and pheugo), is used in 2_Pet_1:4; 2_Pet_2:18,20.

A3.     Escape [Verb]

diapheugo lit., "to flee through," is used of the "escaping" of prisoners from a ship, Acts_27:42. For the word in Acts_27:44, see diasozo.

A4.     Escape [Verb]

ekpheugo "to flee out of a place" (ek, "out of," and pheugo), is said of the "escape" of prisoners, Acts_16:27; of Sceva's sons, "fleeing" from the demoniac, Acts_19:16; of Paul's escape from Damascus, 2_Cor_11:33; elsewhere with reference to the judgments of God, Luke_21:36; Rom_2:3; Heb_2:3; Heb_12:25; 1_Thess_5:3. A5.     Escape [Verb]

diasozo in the Active Voice, "to bring safely through a danger" (dia, "through," intensive, sozo, "to save"), to make completely whole, to heal, Luke_7:3; to bring "safe," Acts_23:24; "to save," Acts_27:43; in the Passive Voice, Matt_14:36, "were made whole;" 1_Pet_3:20. It is also used in the Passive Voice, signifying "to escape," said of shipwrecked mariners, Acts_27:44; Acts_28:1,4. See HEAL, SAFE, SAVE.

Note: Exerchomai, "to come or go out of a place," is rendered, "He escape," in John_10:39, AV, an unsuitable translation, both in meaning and in regard to the circumstances of the Lord's departure from His would-be captors. The RV "went forth" is both accurate and appropriate to the dignity of the Lord's actions.
