A1.     Whole (made), Wholly, Wholesome [Adjective]

holos for which see holos_under_ALL, and ALTOGETHER, signifies "whole,"

hugies (cp. Eng., "hygiene") is used especially in the Gospels of making sick folk "whole," Matt_12:13; Matt_15:31; Mark_3:5; Mark_5:34; Luke_6:10; John_5:4,6,9,11,14,15; John_7:23; also Acts_4:10; of "sound (speech)," Titus_2:8. See SOUND.

A6.     Whole (made), Wholly, Wholesome [Adjective]

holoteles "wholly," 1_Thess_5:23, is lit., "whole-complete" (holos, and telos, "an end"), i.e., "through and through;" the Apostle's desire is that the sanctification of the believer may extend to every part of his being. The word is similar in meaning to holokleros; holokleros draws attention to the person as a "whole," holoteles, to the several parts which constitute him.

Note: In 1_Tim_4:15, the sentence freely rendered "give thyself wholly to them" is, lit., "be in these (things)."


B1.     Whole (made), Wholly, Wholesome [Verb]

hugiaino "to be in good health," akin to hugies, is rendered "they that are whole" in Luke_5:31; "whole" in Luke_7:10 (present participle); "wholesome" in 1_Tim_6:3, AV (RV, "sound;" marg., "healthful"). See HEALTH, SOUND.
