MAY FIRST 1998 is the first-ever National Charity Walkathon in Singapore, involving some 70 churches. The aim is to raise funds for designated charities as part of Vision 2001's ongoing effort to build bridges into society by serving the community.

Beyond May First, Christians from diverse backgrounds across Singapore will continue to stroll two-by-two through specific streets, neighbourhoods and housing districts, praying as they go. Dubbed love Singapore, this low profile project is a creative way of blessing Singapore through our prayers. Anyone with two feet and a heart for this city can participate. Here is a simple action plan.

• Form a Team.
  You can always prayerwalk alone, but you'll be more effective as you pray with others. Walking in small groups of two or three always seem to work best.

• Find a Territory.
  Establish a route. It need not cover a large area. Perhaps you will only walk a dozen streets within a selected zone.

• Follow a Topic.
  Get your prayers rolling by following a scriptural theme [see prayer prompter below]. Read the verses aloud. Pray in a conversational manner with your walking partner, Allow the Holy Spirit to direct your prayers, accompanied by worship.

• Finish with a Talk.
  Discuss your prayerwalk with your partners. What did you learn about the places you prayerwalked? What did the Holy Spirit reveal? Which prayers and insights should be recorded to help watch for God's answers? What further prayer effort is God stirring you and your team to pursue?

• Our Father in heaven ...
  Father, we confess there's none like You. You are exalted far above all gods, all names, all authorities and all powers right here. We invite You to come and visit our city today.

• Hallowed be Your name...
  Lord, we want You honoured and feared in this place. Reveal who You are to, seekers and non-seekers alike.

• Your Kingdom come. Your will he done on earth as it is in heaven.
  Come King Jesus! Confront lives with Your healing power and love. Subdue rebelliousness against You. Transform hearts to choose You.

• Give us this day our daily bread...
  Lord, in the midst of the economic turmoil, provide for those who lack. Most of all, cause them to hunger for the true Bread of Life so that they might live!

• And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors...
  Lord, our city is trapped in a tangle of sins. Materialism. Idolatry. Immorality.

  Only You can free us. However deep or longstanding the sins of our city may be, we ask You Lord to forgive. Bring forth a wave of repentance and reconciliation in every place, on every street we walk. Come, heal our land.

• And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one...
  Deliver the people in this place from satan's baits and traps. Break the vicious circles of addictions and pride.
• For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and glory forever. Amen.
  Lord, we recognize Your sovereign reign in this place. Your power is already at work. Your fullest glory will soon come. We give You our praises now.
