BETHESDA STUDENT CARE CENTRE (BSCC)

About the Logo:

The Bethesda Student Care Centre logo comprises three main parts.

The red heart symbolizes the loving CARE that the teachers and supervisors strive to give to all students who come to the centre.

This love originates from our loving God.

The green arch represents the safe and protective environment of the CENTRE.

The yellow dot represents each STUDENT who comes under the embrace of the centre.

In the early 1990's, a survey on the neighbourhood's needs and a study of other churches' community outreach programmes indicated clearly that we should start a Before and After School Programme. Wanting to be relevant to the community around us was the key motive behind the setting up of Betheda Student Care Centre with the following objectives:

1. To provide sincere and professional before and after care to the students.

2. To reach out to the students and their families with the gospel.

The Bethesda Student Care Centre opened its door to its first 25 students in January 1995 with Dorothy Lee, Shalom See and Gwendoline Teh as our first teachers. Since then, we have never stopped to marvel at the Lord's leading and provision. More teachers and students have been added to us. As at October 1997, the BSCC has eight committed teachers and 100 students. We are particularly thankful that through the witness of the teachers, many students had come to know the Lord and some are faithfully attending our Sunday School.

The Lord is faithful. He has not only provided us with a dedicated staff but also many volunteer helpers, especially during the holiday periods. Although there were times when we faced operational problems, through His guidance we have been able to overcome them.

It is not all work and no play at the BSCC. Besides the normal routines during the term time, we organise exciting programmes for the children during the holidays. Educational trips to places like the Singapore Discovery Centre, SPCA and the Singapore Zoological Gardens, and enrichment courses on Computers and Creative Writing are just to name a few. Various handicrafts, needle-work and simple cooking skills are also taught.
The parents of the students are not neglected. Parental talks by various professionals are regularly held for them and these have been well attended.
