... a weekly letter of encouragement.
March 15, 1993
Be careful as to what you ask of God. He might just give it to you...along with "leanness of soul."
"...He let them have what they wanted, but sent leanness within their soul." (Psalm 106:15 - Berkeley)
Israel griped about the food God was providing for them in the desert:
"It ain't as good as what we had in Egypt!" (Numbers 11: 4 - 9) *
- So God gave them all the meat they could eat (Numbers 11: 31-33)
...Along with leanness of soul.
Israel whined about not having a king as did the surrounding nations:
"Everyone else has a king, why can't we?" (I Samuel 8:6) *
- So God gave them tall, handsome Saul (I Samuel 10:24)
...Along with high taxes, conscription, wars and bad government.
By Contrast Jesus, when faced with the prospect of going to the cross, prayed:
"My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from
Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt." (Matthew 26:39)
Christ's submission to the will of God made our salvation possible.
Submitting to the will of God in our prayers is not a cop out...just common sense!
Have a great week!
