... a weekly letter of encouragement.
August 30, 1993
Do you handle Satan's attacks just like you do the other pressures in your life:
- Through the power of your intellect?
- By toughing it out?
- By cool, rational thinking?
If that is your modes operandi, you are dead meat.
Satan is profoundly superior to you in winning spiritual battles. After all, he has had thousands of years to perfect and ply his trade. Because Paul understood Satan's deadly power, he wrote:
"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (II Corinthians 10:3 - 5)
The "arguments" and "pretension" are our prideful assumption that we can handle Satan's attacks on our own without the spiritual weapons of warfare outlined in Ephesians 6:10-19:
Preparation to give the Gospel
Word of God
We will be defeated at every turn until we realize:
* The power of the enemy
* Our prideful inclination toward thinking we can handle his attacks
* The Biblical rules of spiritual warfare
Only in our sense of inadequacy and in suiting up in His armor can we win over the enemy:
Have a great week!
