Good Morning!

INDEPENDENCE! Isn't that what we all want?

We'd like to have enough bucks stashed away to survive, just in case God doesn't come through.

More than that, we'd like to be free to do as we please, when we please, and with whom we please.

"I AM THE MASTER OF MY FATE; I AM THE CAPTAIN OF MY SOUL." (W.E. HENLEY)

We'd never admit it publicly, but secretly we'd like to be financially independent and accountable to no one. When Christ teaches us to daily ask Him for bread*, we find it upsetting. We don't want to be that dependent!

Not so Jesus in His relationship with His Father:

"The Son can do nothing on His own...for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner" (John 5:19)

"I can do nothing on my own initiative...I do not seek my own will, but the will of Him who sent me." (John 5:30)

As His disciples, we are to "walk as Jesus walked+." That is, we are to follow His example of DEPENDENCE, rather than INDEPENDENCE.

In fact, Christ put it even more poignantly: "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; FOR APART FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING." (John 15:5)

If you are secretly committed to becoming independent by not having to daily trust God for your needs, (be it financial, health, family, etc.), be assured of this: God is committed to re-re-arranging the circumstances in your life to keep you dependent upon Him.

Hopefully, we are quick learners. After all, we are dealing here with the Sovereign God who loves us too much to let us get away with it!

Have a great week!
