Subject: Keeping In Touch

My dearest En Yu,

I am so glad that we have managed to set up this electric communication. For a while the usage of Internet is a bit of a struggle, but soon I am sure most of it will soon come quite automatically. I will try to electronically post a few messages to you now and again just to keep in touch and to keep you company, so that you can feel quite at home, although in a different room way up in Poole, perhaps in the same electronic house: it is a little like me using the downstairs phone to call Min Yu upstairs.

As I scratch my head to think of how best to say "I love you", it seems to me that in the same way as I want to talk to you and share with you, so too does my heavenly Father want to say "I love you" to me, and so too does God long to talk with me and share with me. As I sense how keen you are to read my letters, I sense so too should I be longing to read the letters that my Heavenly Father has sent.

So I turn to His Holy Word and find his Son speaks to me as recorded in the Gospel according to St. Matthew, Chapter 22 vs. 37-40. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like to it: Love your neighbour as yourself." So I hear Jesus, my personal Lord and saviour telling me that there are two critical relationships: first: vertical between me and God, and second: horizontal, between me and other people. Jesus also says that the first relationship is the most important: that I should love God even more than I love you or mum or anyone else (especially myself).

As I read more of God's word it increases my hunger for more scriptures: As I read over and over again, I gradually begin to learn more and more about my heavenly father and his plans for me. I know that my human mind can never fully comprehend how great God is, yet with the Spirit of humility and spirit of Wisdom and discernment, I know am given a glimpse of the Almighty. As Paul in 1 Cor 13:12 says "Now I see but a poor reflection; then we shall see face to face!"

What else can we learn about God. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command (Hebrews 11:3). The Bible says God is love (1 John 4:8). The bible says love is patient, and kind. So from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 I earn that God is patient, God is kind. God does not envy, God does not boast. God is not proud, God is not rude. God is not self seeking. God is not easily angered. God keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but always rejoices in the truth. God always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preservers. God never fails. And as I learn about God, I begin to understand how He expects me to live, in His image.

The instruction is to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind. To prepare to do so I believe this means to read his word daily. As you do so you will store up treasures ;like grains of wheat during the years of plenty. Remember the Pharaoh of Egypt dreamed about 7 fat cows and 7 thin cows? So to, I believe each of us will go through good times and bad times. But we will not be alone. God promises to be there with us. And God teaches us to lay not treasures where moths and rust can destroy and thieves can steal, but to lay up treasures in heaven. And I believe by daily reading and hiding the word of God in our hearts we do so. I do not try to memorise word for word, chapter after chapter. But I just read the word of God, try to understand the teaching and enjoy the stories, and enjoy the fellowship as God speaks to me.

Love Dad.
